This weekend I was in a mood for a Stephen King story. I wanted something short so I was checking out his short stories and stumbled upon Children of Corn. I remembered watching Children of Corn movie and I didn’t realized it was a novella from Stephen King himself. So I read it and woah. Let me share my thoughts of this short novella…
Burt and Vicky are traveling through Nebraska on their way to California on a vacation meant to save their failing marriage. After being involved in an accident in which they run over a young boy who ran into the road, they take the body to Gaitlin, a small isolated community nearby. The story centers on their encounters with the strange citizens of Gaitlin and the entity they call “He Who Walks Behind the Rows”.
For a short story this is very creepy. This is something you can read before going to sleep. I for one thought was a good fast paced read when you don’t want to read a big book. Stephen King can really bring something ordinary, a regular road trip to something scary. He even brought some biblical references to the story that made it even more convincing in what was happening. I don’t want to say much about it because then I will be ruining it for you.
I would recommend this novella. I give this story 5 stars. If you ever in a mood for something dark before bedtime I suggest you read this one.
